Embracing the gentle shift to Autumn
As the final weeks of summer slowly fade, I've begun to notice the leaves on the trees outside my home shift to their autumnal hues. There's an air of excitement online as the world prepares for autumnal cosy nights and Halloween festivities. Sunsets at this time of year are exceptional, casting a warm glow into the skies and across the land, while the air smells fresh and earthy.
Late Summer still lingers, offering the last drops of its gorgeous abundant energies. Beer gardens are still full in my city of Bristol, and summer festivals and gigs are being enjoyed and rounded out. Last weekend I had the girls over for a vegan roast dinner and enjoyed The Longest Johns's last summer festival gig of 2024. This seasonal transition is one of my favourites.
A collective release
Before we roll right into Halloween, let’s take a pause. The summer has been a season of collective release and expansion for so many of us. Personal growth has been intense, and change has been thrust upon many. For me, the journey began with dreaming I was a teenager again, revisiting old haunts and people. Facing past wounds, I saw how they still show up and impact my day-to-day. It continued from there, as so many of my friends went through their awakenings and shifts. In my tarot readings, I noticed a collective need for releasing old patterns, behaviours and people to make way for what's to come. This need to release felt both subtle and monumental. It inspired me to create my recent booklet, Rituals to Release Anxiety.
The first step for many of my clients is recognising they are the captain of their ship. The booklet is a collection of the tools and techniques that help to give back control, making way for creativity, inspiration and growth. Emotional and spiritual progress is never linear, the rituals recognise and allow space for that. They're due to arrive from the printers this week; I'm so excited to hold them and release them into the world.
Connecting to Autumn
Our journeys of growth and self-discovery move with the nature of the seasons. Just as trees release their leaves, we can let go of behaviours, thought patterns, environments, and situations that no longer serve us. Absorbing their lessons and learning along the way. This approach to release encourages new growth, reminding us that we are the architects of our lives.
Autumn presents a beautiful opportunity to step away from the constant hum of algorithms and emails and delve into something deeper too. Change and release can happen when we give it space, away from distractions. I encourage sensory gardening, and woodland walks to open that space.
If our personal growth journeys can be mirrored in the changing seasons, our paths can always find new ways to take hold. It’s a lifelong endeavour. And like the leaves that will return in spring, we too will continue to evolve and flourish. We may not know what those fresh spring buds look and feel like yet, for we have work to clear away what doesn’t serve us. It’s not a fast or easy process, so be gentle with yourself during this seasonal and personal transition.
